A book about John Newton, written for today...

By Dr. Elizabeth Tyrrell

John Newton was a one-time slaver master and renowned blasphemer. In his later life he underwent a spiritual transformation and was eventually ordained into the Anglican Church in 1764.

Newton went on to pen some of the most iconic of hymns however Amazing Grace received worldwide critical acclaim whilst crossing many musical barriers.

Among the many themes in this book, we explore how his faith transformation occurred. Was it a Christian conversion or not?  What was his rationale for writing Amazing Grace? Was Newton seeking God’s forgiveness for his blasphemous past life or for his participation in the British Slave trade.
